On a rainy day in March, as we drove home by car, both Sebastian and I saw the cliffs of Skødshoved Beach glowing in the mist. I have often seen them and often thought about them… but never experienced them up close. So, we decided to find our way out to them, see them, and experience them. We followed up on that decision during Easter… and what an adventure awaited us.
Skødshoved Beach is located on Mols and is therefore part of National Park Mols Bjerge. The cliffs sit right by Aarhus Bay, and I have sailed past them many times on my way to Zealand. The cliffs do not look particularly Danish, but don’t be mistaken—they contain clear traces of our Danish geological past, which is reflected in the stones you find there.
To reach the cliffs, we parked the car at a small parking lot near Isgård Manor. From there, we walked a couple of kilometers along Molshovedvej, passing fields of newly sprouted rapeseed. We passed a summerhouse area and turned down past the forest, where we found a bench overlooking Aarhus Bay, with Aarhus visible far out on the horizon.
Here, we enjoyed our packed lunch, warm tea, and one of the first spring days of the year in the sunshine.

From the small bench, the path continued down along the forest and ended at a steep staircase that led us over the cliffs and down to the beach. And even though it was April, Easter, and everyone was heading towards Mols Bjerge, we were completely alone down here.
The beach was covered in soft sand, fascinating stones, and steep cliffs towering to one side.

Both Sebastian and I love stones. And since I seem to have an almost autistic-like ability to spot fossilized sea urchins, it didn’t take more than a few minutes before I had found two of them—along with plenty of other fascinating fossilized stones.
Letting Sebastian and me loose in a place like this requires a great deal of patience. Fortunately, Peter has plenty of that.

After spending quite some time at the beach, the waves suddenly began to wash high up onto the shore. So, we decided to head back, and on our way home, we came across this little beauty, basking in the sunshine.

The trip was filled with spring sunshine, great conversations, fossil hunting, delicious packed lunches, songs, and naming the cows we passed along the way.
Adventure isn’t just something we dream about—it’s something we reach for and prioritize. Life comes with many challenges, but the adventures are the ones we choose, no matter what life brings our way.
