Join us at the Cascades des Anglais waterfall, where we bathe in the icy mountain water surrounded by pine forests and towering mountains.

It’s true that Corsica is surrounded by the most beautiful beaches, but if you venture into the heart of the island, the mountains offer you both stunning rivers and gorgeous waterfalls. Join us as we took a longer drive and a small trek to experience the waterfall, ‘Cascades des Anglais.’

We couldn’t limit ourselves to just one trip to Corsica. We’ve now traveled here four times in just nine years, and we’re already looking forward to returning again in a few years. Each time we come here, we experience new adventures and get a little deeper into the country, which just keeps on giving. This time, one of our big wishes was to take a short trek with Sebastian and experience the mountains and waterfalls.

We chose a small trek that led through pine forests surrounded by majestic mountains on all sides. To get there, we drove to the mountainous area of Vizzavona. From the Bravone area, where we stayed, you pass through the most beautiful mountains, adorned with small Corsican villages. The roads are good, and Peter was driving, but at times, I had to look deep into the camera on my lap to avoid feeling dizzy from the steep mountain slopes and tiny railings.

We parked the car and set off. While it was around 30 degrees along the coast, here it was a bit cooler. First, we crossed a small mountain whose backside was covered in pine forest. The sides were steep, and we occasionally had to hold on tightly to avoid sliding down the mountainside, which led down to the riverbed.

As we made it through the pine forest, the sky opened up, revealing the vast mountain landscape before us. The sun emerged, warming us once again. The mountains here are quite massive, and we could hardly tear ourselves away from the sight of them.

Cascades des Anglais

In the old days, Cascade des Anglais was a favorite excursion spot for wealthy English aristocrats. They would take the train from Ajaccio to Vizzavona, enjoying the cool mountain air and the beautiful, beautiful surroundings. Today, you can still take the train here – from Ajaccio, Bastia, and Calvi.

The waterfalls are now visited by many families. The journey is relatively short, and you quickly experience beautiful scenery along the way, suitable for all ages. Although the path was difficult to see and sometimes a bit uncertain to walk on, we saw both elderly people challenging themselves and women with infants on their shoulders scaling the mountain.

The water is crystal-clear and ice-cold. Not just cold like we know from the Danish seas, but cold in a way that, in 30-degree heat, suddenly immerses you in cool, enveloping mountain water. Wonderful and refreshing, an entirely different Corsican adventure than we had experienced before.

The waterfall is beautiful, but it was the many tiered pools that extended from it that gave the greatest experiences. The pools were shallow and filled with the clearest, ice-cold mountain water; we splashed around and let ourselves glide through them.

Sebastian surprised me again and again. He climbed around on the rocks as if he was born for mountain life, and it seemed like he just couldn’t get enough

Horizon, view, freedom.

I think we all needed to express the feelings we experienced as we, refreshed from bathing in the icy mountain waters, stood once again on top of the mountain – with a view of even more adventures… time… and vacation.

Freedom, vacation, time, and lovely Corsica.
